Our 5 star date

Nate and I planned to go to MIX once we got our taxes back. I have been wanting to try it and Nate has been wanting to take me there, so we went last night. I think everyone needs to experiance eating a meal like this! It was incredible! We were there for 3 1/2 hours. It was so much fun and the food was amazing! My tounge is getting tight and starting to juice just remembering it. Goodness, it was delicious!

When we first got there, everyone Nate works with kept coming up and talking to us. It was cool and made me feel like we were really important. I guess we were considered VIP's so we got extra attention. The manager came out to talk to us and offered us champagne but we said no thanks. It was funny cause everyone kept trying to get us to order some drinks but they all know that Nate doesn't drink. They said that maybe if they gave him enough to drink, he would dance for us. That was a nice thought. A few minutes later, our server brought us two champagne glasses full of what I thought was really champagne. They all laughed and informed us that it was gingerale and the wine guys had sent it out to us. I thought it was funny because all of Nate's co workers would do a double take when they walked by because they were very surprised we were drinking. We informed them it was just gingerale. I did look at the wine menu and it was pretty crazy. Here is a picture of the menu.

Yes, that is a bottle of wine and yes, those are the prices of each bottle. Yes, it does say 44,000 dollars. I almost fell of my chair. I will stick with the free gingerale.

Ok, so after we looked at the menu and I asked Nate and our server a million questions, we ordered all our food. This is what we had.

We started off with a basket of breads. There are 6 different kinds of bread; salt bread, country bread, chibatta bread, walnut raisin bread, green onion bread, and whole wheat bread. I liked the salt bread the best. Nate likes the walnut raisin. There is also butter and peanut butter and the peanut butter is not Jiffy. It is like real butter with real peanuts in it. It was delicious.

After our bread they brought us something called carrot soup. This was not my favorite. It was in a really tiny glass and it was cold with a dollop of some white cream. It is called "amuse bouche" and this is french for "to humor your mouth." I guess they wanted to get our taste buds working. I was a little nervous after that because I didn't think it was very good and didn't finish it. This was one of the things we got because we were VIP's.

After the humouring of our mouth, we got our appetizers. I ordered the smoked duck salad, mushroom royale and fresh herbs. It was delicious!!! It was a salad with some different kinds of vegetables, mushrooms, duck and it even had a tiny hard boiled quail egg. It looked amazing and tasted even better!
I didn't know until after I scarfed the entire thing down that those dark things on top are the gizzards. The thought kinda grossed me out but if all gizzards tasted like that, I am down for eating it all the time.

Nate ordered the tender potato Gnocchi, asparagus, parmentier, wild mushrooms, parmigano. I don't know what half of those things are but I do know that it was just as delicious as mine!

Mmmm, after all that, the kitchen sent out another VIP treat- Snapper. We are not big lovers of fish but this was really really good. Our server told me that this fish is caught that morning off the coast of New Zealand and Fed Ex'd the same day so it is as fresh as it can be. I thought that was really amazing.

It had some strange foam on it and that made me a little unsure but I tried it anyways and it was very tasty. I would recommend it.

After the snapper, we got our entree's and the two sides that we ordered. I got the beef tenderloin and glazed shortribs, velvet sauce and potato pont-neuf. It was very good and looked really amazing on the plate. I kept pretending I was a judge on Iron Chef. That would be a great job.

Nate orderd the Bison tenderloin "sauce Au Poivre," and mix of vegetables. This was a seriously amazing dish. I think if we are ever lucky enough to go there again, I would get this. It was so good.
We got two sides to go with our food. Not because this wouldn't have been enough food but I wanted to try so many things. We got the elbow pasta, which is a fancy macaroni and cheese. It's not like the powder cheese though. It's really melted, stringy cheese and it is wonderful. We also got the fork crushed potatoes. This is one of the things that I always make fun of Nate for. Did they really taste different because they were crushed with a fork? What was the big deal? They were basically mashed potatoes. Right? Wrong. They were better than any mashed potatoes I have had. I don't know why. Maybe it was the seasoning they put in there, maybe it really is because they are crushed with a fork. Whatever it is, they were scrumptious!
After all that food, our table was cleared and we were given pre dessert! I would have just been happy with that! It was so delicious! It was served in a martini glass. It had a warm pina coloda foam on top and the bottom was a cold fruity mango concoction that was to die for! I could have had a couple of those!
After our pre dessert, we had dessert. I ordered the Key lime Coupe with almond meringue. It was so cool and refreshing and was just like bitting into a cold lime. Yum! It even had a candied lime on top which I thought was just adorable!

Nate ordered the Strawberry and vanilla baked alaska. I used to think baked alaska was a fish. Nope, it's a delightful dessert. I really liked his and would probably order that next time we get to go.

Phew, once we were all done with that and I was seriously considering unbuttoning my pants because I was so full, they brought us some after dinner nuts. Nate has brought these home for me and they are really good. They are almonds with lots of sugar on them. Even though I was SO full, I had to eat them. I did end up putting the rest in my pocket to save for later cause I couldn't let them be thrown away.
After all that, we were just sitting there enjoying the view and talking. I was soaking everything in because this was a totally new experience for me. The pastry chef sent out one more VIP thing. It was called a madeline. It was just a little pastry and they give you Nutella to spread on it. As stuffed as I was, I know when not to pass up a good thing and ate them. They were a nice ending to a perfect meal.
The night was perfect, the food was great and most of all, I was with Nate and that made it all complete. I am so glad that we got to do this. I am so glad that I got to see inside his work world for just one night. I am glad that I got to experience this one time. It was a lot of fun and well worth it. Everyone should do this, at least once in their life.

Here is a picture of the view from where we were at. It is pretty incredible!
