Ok, so I am NOT saying that people in Vegas are more dishonest. I'm really not but I have seen more dishonest things happen at this credit union in the 9 months (hey, I could have had a baby) that I have worked here than the 4 years I worked at Goldenwest CU.
On Monday, a guy came into the branch to ask some questions about his direct deposit. He had set it up with his employer about a month ago and was getting his stub but the money had never been deposited into his account. He showed me the form that he filled out and gave to his employer. I noticed that the account number was wrong. I got nervous wondering if that was an actual account and sure enough it was. This other member had received this guys last two paychecks. It was a total of 2900 or so. Now, what would you do if you had some mysterious money automatically deposited into your account? I don't know, CALL THE CREDIT UNION maybe or do something. Do anything BUT spend the money right? This guy had spent ALL of the money. It was gone. Zippo. Zilch. Gone.
I had to take the money out (which left him very negative) and credit the other guys account. I tried to call him but could not reach him. My manager talked to him yesterday and told him what had happened. He then said, (and this is what kills me) "oh yeah, I saw that in my account and wondered if I should say anything about it."
What the heck was he thinking!? We would eventually figure things out and we would eventually take the money. Why would you spend the money knowing that it was not yours. I looked at his account and it was obvious that he was shopping till he was dropping!
I just don't understand.
