ah crap

Happy 4th of July everyone.

So stac has mentioned about 5 times to me that I need to blog while we're up here. I don't know why but I don't really feel like it most of the time up here. But here I am anyway. Stac totally convinced me to do it as she started to doze off in the recliner while we all just hang out in the basement to avoid the heat. she's sleeping and I'm blogging.

I love being up here! I don't know if it's just the magic of being away and not working, or if it's being in a different place with a different routine, or whatever; but I really like Huntsville. For those of you who are assuming that we're nice and cool up here (like I thought it might be) it's been in the 100's during most of the day and more humid than Vegas. I don't know if it's a lot more or only a little more, but any more feels like a lot more when all you know is Vegas humidity. The only consolation is that it has been cooling down a lot at night. Last night when we did the big family pre-4th of July party and ended it with a movie in the back yard, it was cool enough for sweatshirts and blankets. Very very nice. Rod bought and roasted a whole pig in the back yard and it actually worked out really really well. It cooked for about 7 hours and was really juicy by the time he was all done cooking. It was a really good party last night; lots of fun. Stac will have to put together a video of things when we get home cause we have lots of pictures and still have 3 whole days left up here.

So far the big 4th of July celebration of Huntsville has been about as good as I could have asked for. We got up this morning at about 7 (which is why Stac is napping now) and went over to the park for breakfast. Nothing big or fancy or special, but all part of the tradition I guess. Once the breakfast deal was all done, things settled down at the park and things got really crowded in preparation for the famous Huntsville parade. It was a lot of fun but Zoee still isn't old enough or brave enough to get out in the street and fight for her share of candy being thrown from the floats. So we (at least I) enjoyed sitting there just watching and not having to worry about where Zoee was. She got a couple laffy taffy's and tootsie rolls at the beginning (thank you aunt Kaylee) and she was pretty well satisfied with her take. I have to say that my personal favorite part of the parade was the two Nacho Libre guys going around on a bike and roller blades. They threw candy, tortilla chips, and corn on the cob. Pretty funny and creative on someone's part. After the parade things really calmed down for us. The park was really full of booths people so after one round checking everything out, Stac and I decided that there wasn't anything we couldn't live without doing so we came back to the house. From there the day has consisted of sitting outside on the porch and simply enjoying that everyone is on their own. People have been coming and going. Extended family just stops by. People sit around and chat. People nap. Nothing happens and it makes for a nice day. And that has pretty much been our day. There is going to be a really big fireworks show tonight to cap off the whole day of festivities that is supposed to put every fireworks show I've ever seen to shame. I'm skeptical, but we'll see. You've seen one fireworks show, you've seen them all.

We put Zoee down for her second nap (first one was cut short today when she pooped) and I need to go wake her up before it gets too late. We love you all.

How's the bum from the horse throw? Glad you're having fun. We're celebrating in traditional Garrard style. Doing NOTHING with NO ONE! Gotta love a holiday!

It wasn't really a throw. The saddle slipped and I fell on my butt (as opposed to my head since my foot got stuck in the stirrup.) Butt's fine.

Yay! I love warm, fuzzy posts from my brother, especially while his wife's sleeping. It's such a cozy thought all full of love and happiness. I am betting the fireworks show rocks. The best one I have seen was just outside of Ogden a couple years ago. Probably beats the 7-11 sponsored one we bought and burned. Love you guys.

We had a fireworks show put on by Kevin (Riley's boyfriend) that almost burnt the neighborhood down!!! We were all enjoying the safe and sane fireworks, then Kevin woke up and brought out his bad of Moapa Tribal Enterprises fireworks. HOLY CRAP!!!! That scared most of the kids inside. After stuff flew by my head twice, I joined the kids curled up in the fetal position in the house!!! Then Frankie and I got to clean up the mess!!! So fun!!!

If you want my advice about Huntsville, if you move there and start working, it will ruin it! I don't know why that is, and maybe I am wrong (even though it IS Utah!!!:)), but it seems like once you start calling a place home and actualy have to start making a living, the "cool" seeps out of it. Just get on with North Las Vegas, start making some good money, and buy and Summer/Winter/Vacation home there. That's what I want to do, but in Norway instead of Utah. Yeah, probably won't happen, so I may have to settle for Utah!!!
