I have had a few people ask me about what happened with Zoee and the car so I thought I would add a few details. We did snap some pictures during the ordeal but they are on my sisters camera so I will try to get them from her so I can post them.
I was in Utah for the funeral of my uncle. I left to go up on Friday when I heard that he had died. Nate was going to fly up Monday night so he could be there for the funeral on Tuesday. My little brother, Kyle was scheduled to leave for the marines on Sunday night. The plan was to drop him off at the marine office and then we would all go to Salt Lake and once he was checked into his hotel he could leave and meet us for dinner one last time before he left for San Diego the next day.
We went to the recruiting office and were waiting for the recruiters to get there. My brother and his wife, Melanie and their boy Max came to hang out with us while we waited. The recruiter was late and so we were just waiting in the parking lot. The kids were playing and running around. We were feeding the birds in the parking lot and having lots of fun. I decided to go to the car to get some shoes for Gus. I had found one shoe and was looking under the seat for the other one when I heard someone yell, "Zoee!! Stop!!" I knew from the sound of it that something horrible was about to happen. I turned around just in time to see Zoee run out into the parking lot and get hit by a car. It was the most awful thing I have ever seen and I doubt I will ever get that image out of my mind. I ran faster than I think I have ever ran over to her. I was the first to get to her. She had been hit so hard that she had landed about 8-10 feet from the car. She was sitting up but her leg was bent in a way that legs should not bend. I thought for sure her leg was broken. She was screaming. The girl in the car was screaming. Lots of people were screaming. I was actually pretty calm. I think my adrenaline had kicked in. The only thing I kept saying was "call 911! call 911!" Someone was already on the phone with 911.
The police and ambulance were there in less than 3 minutes. Zoee screamed louder as the rush of people crowded around here and all the police men started to talk to her. I kept try to keep her calm by telling them that these men were just like daddy and looked just like daddy when he went to work. The paramedic started to check her and they thought something was wrong with her leg. They cut her pants off and found that her leg was actually ok. It was a shock to all of us because I really don't know how her leg was twisted like that and not broken. My dad was kneeling next to us and he was trying to get her to calm down too. She was screaming her little lungs out and screamed harder when they started to put her on the stretcher. They put a neck brace on her and strapped her head down. I was doing ok and actually walked away from Zoee for a minute and left her with my dad because I noticed that no one was with the girl in the car. I went over to her car and told her that everything was ok and that it would all be ok. She was crying so hard and I thought we should probably take her in the ambulance too!! Poor girl. She really was a mess.
We made it to the hospital, thanks to the stuffed lion that the paramedics gave her and the flashlight they let her hold and shine on the ceiling of the ambulance. I felt really overwhelmed in the ambulance because they kept telling me that I needed to calm her down. I was trying and she was just crying harder every time they pushed on her belly or pulled on her fingers. She finally calmed down once I started to sing to her. I do not have a good voice and I have never really had a time when my singing had calmed anyone but it worked this time and I was glad. She had actually laughed a few times by the time we got to the hospital. They informed me that she was looking pretty good and that they were surprised because kids usually never walk away from these kind of things without anything wrong.
Zoee did really well in the hospital. She cried a little when the doctors and nurses came in and started to check her. She loved riding on the "bed with wheels" and thought that was pretty cool. She was not a fan of the MRI and did not like going into that "big doughnut" as the nurse called it. She did good though and didn't cry. We waited for awhile after the the MRI so the doctor could look at it and give us the ok to go. He finally came in and said that amazingly enough, she was ok. All she had was a few scrapes on her elbows, one on her back and a pretty good goose egg on the back of her head with a bruise. The doctor put some bandaids on her elbows and we were sent on our way.
It was truly amazing. I still think about it and can not believe that nothing more serious happened. I know she was protected and in our hearts we feel like it might have been necessary for this to happen to remind some of our family members the importance of life and the importance of the Savior in our lives. It was a testimony builder for me and strengthened my faith.
**Since the accident, Zoee has really struggled with being outside on the road or walking through parking lots. She will freak out and scream if I am not right there to hold her hand. She will not walk around the car to get into her seat. She will climb over Gus's seat to get to hers just so she doesn't have to walk in the parking lot. We were out for a walk the other day and she was so concerned about the cars and was even scared to walk past the ones that were parked. I feel so bad for her.
Some funny things that she said during it all...
"That car just came so fast and crashed me."
This was in the hospital, she looked at me with the most concerned look and said, "Mom, that man cut my pants, and we don't cut pants." (We have had the talk about not cutting our hair or our clothes, we only cut paper)
Talking to my mom that night and showing my mom her bandaids, "Greema, maybe next time I get hit by a car, they will give me princess bandaids." My mom informed her that she would buy her an entire case of princess bandaids if she DID NOT get hit by another car.
She named her lion "Crash"
The paramedics kept calling the neck brace a princess necklace so now she always talks about the princess necklace that made her neck really sweaty.
She is everything to me and I am so glad I still have her in my life!!

Oh Stac, that would be the most terrifying thing! I am so glad that everything worked out for the good and that you guys were so blessed. I was talking to my mom the other day and she told me a very sad story involving a kid and a car...so yes, Zoee was very blessed.
Man, what a horrific thing to have to go through. I'm SO glad it all turned out the way it did. Heavenly Father really was watching over all of you!
Stac, How scary this must have been. It is one of my fears that Dallin will get hit. I am SO glad she is ok.

Holy freakin' moley!!! That truely is a miracle! Your uncle must've been there to cushion her fall. I'm sure that girl that hit her is still a mess, that's one of my worst fears. I'm so glad she's okay!!!
Oh my heck, I started freaking out when I read your title! I feel so bad, I didn't even know that happened on your trip up. How crazy and so scary! I am so sorry for you and for Zoee. But so thankful she is ok. I think your attitude about it is amazing and I totally agree, she was definitely being protected and that should be a great learing experience for everyone, in faith and prayers and in safety too.
Love her little comments, so cute.
