Some days are just better than others.

K. So like it says, some days just end up being better than others. Today was definately one of those days. Here's how:

About 2 1/2 years ago, this is where we were. Totally excited, happy, in love, glad to be together, right?

Because this is a scanned copy of a copy of the original rollercoaster picture, you may not notice, but this is the picture of just seconds after I officially proposed to Stac. Yeah, ON the roller coaster at Magic Mountain. The ring was on my finger and I sure didn't wanna drop that sucker. It was super intense!

And this was how it looked not too long after we got married.

Fast forward to today:

So Stac woke up this morning and her finger felt strange, kinda sore. She got to looking and discovered that she'd somehow gotten a little scratch on her finger under her rings. And it was feeling a little irritated. So she decided that she'd try to take the rings off to get to the itch and let her finger have a little break cause it was beginning to swell a little. She tried. And tried some more. And tried some more. Wasn't happening. She looked online and found a couple different things to help with getting stuck rings off but nothing was helping and all that trying was only making her finger more swollen and super super sore from being fought with all afternoon! She texted me and said that she couldn't get it off and she'd tried everything. By the time I got home I was convinced we'd be going to urgent care and have them take a set of cutters to it. Stac called Kay (where I bought the ring) and they said they had a special little tool that they'd be able to get the ring off with. They were able to get the ring off! The thing totally worked. I was really pretty impressed and Stac was just glad to have the pain and pressure in her finger relieved. And they even let Stac keep her finger. Here's her finger after the day long struggle.

And just to clarify, in case anyone was wondering (since I intentionally made it sound like this story was about her finger) here's what we are now left with:

Looks like we're gonna have to start saving to have a couple rings repaired. About $200 the lady told us.

Yeah. Some days are better than others and Nate failed to mention the PAIN I went through to get the ring off. When I called Kay they sounded like it was no big deal to come in and get the ring cut off. I was bummed that they were going to have to cut the rings but I knew it needed to come off. I really knew it needed to come off once Nate lubed it up and tried to pull it off and it went numb and started to turn blue. So we loaded the kids up and headed to the mall. I really thought it would be a little snip snip and off it would come. We walked into Kay and I explained what had happened. The lady took one look at it and turned to her co worker and asked if he wanted to do it. He said she was better at it. They lady said she did not want to try it because she was nervous. That made me nervous seeing them argue over who was NOT going to have to do it. I told her it was hurting really bad and she told me it was just going to hurt worse. She went in the back and got the "little tool" and came back out. She told me to lay my hand on the towel. I wasn't sure if the towel was going to be used to catch all the blood or what. Now this little tool is quite the invention. It is like a hole punch with a saw. It has this part that slips under your ring and then it clamps down and then you are able to turn this handle and it saws through the metal. Keep in mind that my finger was so swollen that I could not turn the ring around on my finger. I couldn't even get a piece of dental floss under there. (one of the tricks online said you can use dental floss to help pull it off) So she sticks the thing under my ring and the pressure was just too much! I started to sweat and my face was turning pretty red. I told her I was fine and to just keep sawing. I kept telling myself to just relax and focus on something else. Everytime she moved, it would get tighter and tighter. She kept stopping and pulling the thing out from under my ring and everytime she put it back under it hurt worse. It got pretty bad when she sawed a piece of my skin on my hand...notice the cut just before my finger. It was awful! I told her I had given birth twice and I could handle it. I just wanted it to be done and have the rings off. All of the sudden the rings cut into my finger. It started to bleed and I started to cry. So here I was, in the mall with a swollen finger with a half cut ring, sweating and crying. Nate was trying to console me and the lady kept telling me I needed to calm down. She then told me she didn't think she would be able to get it off and that I should try a different jeweler. She suggested a shop that fixes jewelry saying they might have better tools. We walked to the shop and with more cutting, tugging, stretching and bleeding, they were able to get the rings off. It hurt. It hurt like hell and my heart hurt a little once they were off. It was sad to see them cut and bent and even more sad when we found out how much it will cost to get them fixed. I am ok and my finger is fine. The ring is now tucked away in a little bag until we can get it fixed. It sucked.

This is the kind of thing that sucks that you live so far away, because all I want to do right now is give you a great big hug and pat your back and say, "there, there". I'm so sorry. And, it does stink that on top of all that, you'll have to pay $200 to get them repaired. REALLY sucky. I'm so sorry. Too bad they didn't have some stadol for you, huh?

Holy swollen finger Batman! That looks (and sounds) so painful! This time of year my finger gets red, dry and irritated under my wedding rings too. I wash my hands so much that it stays moist under there and thus the irritation. At night I take them off and put a little hydrocortizone cream on the spot. It works wonderfully. (I'm telling you this for when you have your rings fixed, you should try it.) That's a total rip that it costs $200 to repair. But at least you still have the finger to put it on! haha

That really stinks. I am so sorry for ya'll.

On a side note, my parents were cleaning out my room at their house and brought all the stuff for me. I was going through it and found a bunch of pictures from when you were out here on your mission. They really made me laugh.

Hope you guys are doing good!!!

Oh Stac! How sad! I am so sorry! I am sure I would have been bawling, from the pain and the cutting of the ring! That totally sucks! I think the place you bought it should fix it for free! I hope your finger gets better soon. Sorry sweetie!
