The Garrards have an inside joke about mom and how she "took a note." I was not there. It was long before my time but I have heard about it on more than one occasion and they all think it is a pretty funny story. It involves mom walking out of church and somehow falling in the parking lot and someone saying something really funny. So falling is now referred to as "taking a note."
I took a note today. A bad note. A really embarrassing note.
It has been raining all day here in Vegas. This doesn't happen very often but since the entire stake has been fasting for "moisture" we are being blessed with rain. It is nice. I like the rain and it is much needed. Well, I pulled into the gas station today to get some gas. I got out and was walking around the car to the pump when I slipped on what I think was a combination of oil and water and down I went. It took me a second to realize that I had fallen and I quickly got up. I fell right on my hands and knees. I even made that hand slapping sound because the ground was wet. To make matters worse, my pant leg was soaking wet and covered in mud. I was pretty embarrassed. I am sure it was a sight to see! I acted like I was OK and like it was a normal everyday occurrence for me. I hurried and got my gas and drove away. I felt fine and still do minus that my knee is a little sore
I hope that now that I have successfully taken "a note" that I am more of a real Garrard.

initially I laughed at your "note taking" then I remembered you are PG and was ashamed that I had laughed! Then I thought Why am I only ashamed because she's PG~It shouldn't be funny ANYTIME~ SORRY. Why IS it funny to see people fall down? Even if you can tell it hurt you sorta laugh and say though your teeth "eeeehhhh that's gonna leave a mark"
I'm sure NO ONE laughed at you though!(that you could see anyway)
Note or no note, you're part of us!
And, you can credit your darling husband for coining the phrase. I had fallen and was caught between two cars trying to get up, because one leg was stretched out in front and the other one crumpled up under me. He and Howard and the other kids were in a car with tinted windows and it was dark and he couldn't really see very well. Howard asked "what is she doing?"and Nathan said, "I don't know, it looks like she's taking a note or something". (I had my hands full of papers, scriptures, purse, etc.). At least that's the story I was told when I finally got into the car.
That is sad but your story reminds me of camping at the beach where I thought the original "note" had been taken. I'm glad to hear the complete story. I'm sure it wasn't funny for you Beth or you Stacy. I hope all you got was a bruised knee and a slightly bruised ego.
I'm sorry Beth but reading the story again just made me laugh so hard I teared up! I also don't know why it's so funny when someone falls down or even stumbles on a curb or something, but it is! I hope your knee feels better (and your pants aren't ruined!).
